Record Philippine bid in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2015
The Philippines continues to emerge as a formidable presence in the global campaign for sustainable mobility and energy efficiency with its increasing participation in Shell’s renowned tilt for engineering students to develop clean and efficient transport.
In the recently concluded first phase of registration for entries to the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2015, 38 Philippine teams from 25 colleges and universities signified their interest in sharing their innovative ideas for energy-efficient vehicles of the future.
This is the highest number of bids from a country in the region, covering almost a fifth of the total 228 entries to the annual competition.
Earlier this year, 25 student teams comprised the final Philippine contingent to the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2014—the first time the competition was hosted in Manila. The event coincided with the energy and gas technology leader’s centennial anniversary in the country.
Manila will be hosting the Shell Eco-marathon Asia until 2016.
In the second phase of selection, which has started in August, 34 Philippine teams have been selected and will now provide more detailed technical information about their entries, such as engine design, fuel supply and vehicle circuitry.
Entries that will make it past the final phase will land in the racetracks of the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2015 on February 26 to March 1.
The Shell Eco-marathon is a global campaign that is also held in Europe and the Americas. The original vehicles designed by students achieve energy efficiency not only through design but primarily through developing new energy sources, such as natural gas, diesel, ethanol, compressed natural gas, hydrogen, and even through gas to liquid technology and electric mobility.
