In today’s age of dynamic tri-media and digital technology, it is not enough that businesses practice good governance and corporate social responsibility—keeping stakeholder effectively informed of such initiatives is just as important as the initiatives themselves.

“Stakeholder and public engagement is key in evaluating holistic business relevance today,” says Ramon Del Rosario, Shell Vice President for Communications.

Business communication excellence has been an important thrust of the global power, energy and gas technology leader in recent years, which was recently affirmed by a record-setting showing at the 2014 Philippine Quill Awards of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC).

The IABC is one of the respected authorities in distinguishing the most outstanding corporate communications and marketing programs of companies, brands and organizations around the world. The non-profit organization is currently comprised of approximately 14,000 members across 100 chapters.

SciP dominated the annual tilt with a total of 33 awards across a wide spectrum of categories, including marketing and brand communication, employee engagement, internal communications, safety communications, media and community relations, publications, CSR, advocacy, special events, and writing—thereby earning the group the additional overall citation of Company of the Year.

The awards fittingly recognize various campaigns and activities carried out during the centennial celebration of Shell last year.

Isang daan tungo sa kinabukasan

Shell bagged the Top Award in the Communication Skills category for its overall centennial campaign, and a number of Quill Awards of Excellence for related activities such as the “Isang Daan Tungo sa Kinabukasan” advertising campaign, its “Sunrise” centennial video, and a special television feature on Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. scholars Joel and Jovel Javier.

The Shell Eco-marathon and Powering Progress Together forum are two important regional events that were hosted for the first time by the Philippines on Shell’s centennial year, which were both recognized with Awards of Excellence in special events and advocacy communication, respectively.

Other Awards of Excellence and Merit were handed out to Shell’s many other programs related to road safety, social investment and consumer engagement, such as the impactful Shell retail rewards program with SM Advantage card.

“We are extremely humbled and at the same time delighted with these important recognitions especially on the landmark centennial anniversary of Shell companies in the Philippines,” added Del Rosario. “We continuously recognize the value that our stakeholders and publics play in the success of our business, and we will strive to provide value not just through our programs and activities but in the way that we communicate and make them known to the world.”
