P-Noy Sends Off SEM Team Philippines
Team Philippines is composed of some of the most talented and promising engineering students and professors in six of the country’s top universities, namely De La Salle University, Don Bosco Technical College, Mapua Institute of Technology, Technological Institute of the Philippines, University of the Philippines, and University of Santo Tomas. During the call, the school team leaders were accompanied by Science and Technology Secretary Mario Montejo, Communications Sec. Ricky Carandang, Palace Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda and Shell companies in the Philippines Country Chairman Edgar Chua.
Now on its second Asian leg, the annual Shell Eco-marathon sets the longstanding challenge to young and gifted Filipinos to design, build and drive a vehicle that can travel the farthest distance on the least amount of fuel and lowest possible CO2 emissions, thus creating solutions to today’s energy and environment problems.
The President wished the SEM Team Philippines well, expressing optimism that the SEM will continue to be an inspiration for more Filipino youth to support Science and Technology in the country, which are vital to national development and progress.
Team Philippines is ready to set a new efficiency record in this year’s SEM when they compete against over 100 teams from all over Asia.
