Press Release

Shell partners with BFP in promoting fire safety

02/03/2009

The month of March is Fire Prevention month.

Shell companies in the Philippines (Shell) support the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in its persistent and unrelenting drive to promote fire prevention awareness and consciousness. Safety is core to Shell operations globally, with the company having a systematic approach to managing matters on Health, Safety and the Environment (HSE) to achieve continuous performance improvement. Shell supports the BFP in its campaign to educate the public on fire safety and prevention to ensure a fire-safe community.

In observance of the 42nd Fire Prevention Month this March, Shell further strengthens its ongoing partnership with BFP, highlighted by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the two parties. Guided by this year's Fire Prevention Month theme "Fire Safety: A Challenge, A Concern and A Priority for Everybody", among the highlights of the Shell-BFP MOA are the conduct of BFP-assisted fire drills in all Shell depots and retail sites throughout the country, a roadshow on emergency response for fuels, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and compressed natural gas (CNG), and the continuing search for the 10 Outstanding Firefighters, which was launched last year.

Shell believes the search is a sustainable means to promote the value of noble service among our brave and gallant firefighters, as it recognises outstanding firefighters who have risked their lives to protect people and property from fires and honours BFP personnel who have made noteworthy accomplishments in fire prevention.

As part of the kickoff ceremony for this year's Fire Prevention Month, a team of Shell staff and business partners will join the motorcade of fire trucks along Quezon Memorial Circle. An exhibit showcasing Shell's products and safety initiatives will also be displayed at the Shell tent at the Quezon Memorial Circle grounds.
