The Sikat Team led by the DLSU engineering students and faculty members, in partnership with The Philippine Solar Car Society, Inc. (PSCS), composed of the major sponsors Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation, Ford Philippines, Motolite, Sunpower Corporation and First Gen (among others), were warmly welcomed by the MIT administration officers, faculty and engineering students.

“Sikat is here to celebrate the Filipino ingenuity,"  said Shell Sustainable Development Manager Suiee Suarez and a member of the marketing team of the PSCS, as he laid down the objectives for creating Sikat and showcasing it around the country. He underscored that the Sikat road show promotes solar technology and technical innovation, demonstrating the viability of alternative energy for potential use. Furthermore, Sikat aims to inspire and encourage the youth to take up technical or science-related courses.

MIT Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Bonifacio Doma was grateful for the opportunity of showcasing the Sikat solar car in the university. MIT engineering students were very enthusiastic and interested to see the sun-powered vehicle and its features.

In the afternoon programme, as part of the presentations, Suarez also discussed the 3-2-1-6-5 story of Shell, a story in meeting and responding to the pressing energy challenge by producing more energy to meet global energy demand but with less carbon dioxide emissions to the environment.

Moreover, the Mapua family was more than delighted to be part of the Sikat road show stopover. Also a renowned university for their expertise in the engineering field, they look forward to participating and building their own solar car in the near future.
