Shell conducted regular dialogues and engagements with the key sectors of the government and the community to update them on the developments of the scale down activities. Below are the engagements made:

Engagement with the Council of Barangay 833 to formally submit their copy of the complete report of the Pandacan Scale Down “GBZ” Project which summarizes the results of the Environmental Site Assessment and Health Risk Assessment that were done in the community last 2003.  The Council was also briefed on the Air Quality Monitoring (AQM) project that started in June 2005.

Pilipinas Shell Country Chairman Edgar Chua and Vice President for External Affairs Romeo De Guzman engaged the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Michael Defensor to formally submit their copy of the complete report of the Pandacan Scale Down “GBZ” Project which summarizes the results of the Environmental Site Assessment and Health Risk Assessment that were done in the community last 2003.  The Secretary was also briefed on the Air Quality Monitoring (AQM) project to be conducted by Shell in the community this June 2005.

Vice President for External Affairs Romeo De Guzman and External Affairs General Manager Bobby Kanapi engaged Manila City Mayor Lito Atienza to formally submit their copy of the complete report of the Pandacan Scale Down “GBZ” Project which summarizes the results of the Environmental Site Assessment and Health Risk Assessment that were done in the community last 2003.  The Mayor was also briefed on the Air Quality Monitoring (AQM) project to be conducted by Shell in the community this June 2005.

Ocular inspection of the Pandacan joint facility and linear park and an update on the oil depots’ accomplishments of the commitments stated in the MOU.  The four Barangay Chairmen of 833, 834, 835, and 836 accompanied the City officials during their visit.

Training and Program Officers of PBSP (Philippine Business for Social Progress)  visited Pandacan to gain insights on Shell’s Social Performance initiatives, Pilipinas Shell Foundations's projects, and experience the relationship / interaction between Shell and its barangays.   They toured the community and Shell’s linear park.

Professor Elma Torres of the Health Panel presented the “Perspectives of the Health Panel on the Shell PSD Green Buffer Zone Project” as best practice for environmental remediation in the Round Table Discussion entitled Environmental Clean-Up Policies for Better Health or E-CUP held at the Hyatt Hotel.  The National Institutes of Health of the University of the Philippines organized this event.

Shell met with the leaders of the United Front to Oust the Oil Depots (UFO-OD) to communicate and update them of the scale down activities and the projects of Shell that provide livelihood, employment, health, safety and security to the Pandacan communities. They expressed appreciation for the engagement initiative of Shell. Shell proposed to work together in projects and programs that will benefit the communities surrounding Pandacan. The two parties agreed to meet again.
