"Gas Mo, Bukas Ko II" rolls out for the transport sector
On June 2, 2009, Pilipinas Shell Foundation (PSFI) and Public Transport Workers Foundation (PTWF) began recruiting for Gas Mo, Bukas II (GMBK II). Testing and interviews were conducted at the PTWF office located in Cubao, Quezon City where 16 youth applied. On June 6, 2009, another batch of 26 aspiring scholars were entertained by the partners in Dagupan City.

"Gas Mo, Bukas Ko I" recognized by Anvil and MAP
Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP) emerged as the most awarded company in the 44th Anvil Awards of the Public Relations Society of the Philippines, bagging a total of 11 awards. The ‘Gas Mo, Bukas Ko’ (GMBK) Scholarship Programme received an Anvil Award of Excellence for the Employees and Families Category.
The public relations program of GMBK was launched to encourage Shell retail station staff and dealers nationwide to partake in the scholarships offered under GMBK.On July 8, 2009, GMBK will be honoured also by the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP) as a finalist for the Best in Education category in the “MAP CSR Leadership Challenge”.
SAKA sa Palawan receives Governor’s Award
The Sanayan sa Kakayahang Agrikultura sa Palawan (SAKA sa Palawan) Program received the Governor’s Award in the field of Education from the Provincial Government of Palawan. The awarding ceremony was held at the Palawan Convention Center, Legend Hotel, Puerto Princesa City on June 19, 2009. The SAKA Program was one of seven recipients of this year’s Governor’s Award.

Malaria Expert John Storey conducts external evaluation of malaria programs in Apayao and Palawan
In April 2009, International Malaria Expert Dr. John Storey visited the country and is convinced that the Movement Against Malaria (MAM) has already achieved its five-year goal of reducing malaria mortality by 70%. Dr. Storey considers the efficient management of the program and extensive involvement of partners as the key factors in this accomplishment.
Shell supports GK’s Bayan-Anihan Program
On March 28, 2009, Gawad Kalinga (GK), launched its Bayan-anihan Program in its more than 300 sites nationwide. This hopes to provide a solution to hunger in the country. Inspired by the successful collaboration between Shell and GK in building five communal farms in Bicol, Shell supported 23 communities out of 45 GK sites in the region. Shell believes that the program offers a paradigm shift in addressing rural hunger.

On March 12, 2009, SPEECH was launched in Puerto Princesa City, and on April 13, 2009 in the Municipality of Bataraza in Palawan. Each SPEECH lab is equipped with 20 units of computers installed with the DynEd courseware.
Building a business case for social performance
Sebastian Quiniones joined Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) in 1981, starting his career as a Technologist in the Tabangao Refinery and then having stints in Tabangao Operations, project work in SIPM The Hague, in Pililla Refinery as Refinery Superintendent, and then Supply Manager Philippines in 2000. He became PSPC-Distribution Area Manager in 2002 and will step down from this position on August 31, 2009. He was appointed to the positions of Shell Philippines Exploration B.V. Asset Manager and Local Senior Exploration Representative and assumed those positions on May 1, 2009.
