The Ride for Light 2011 is a 6,600-kilometre motorcycle adventure ride across the entire Philippine archipelago – from Manila to Pagudpud to Zamboanga and back, where the Solar Foundation Network will distribute portable solar lanterns to various families and indigenous communities.
Fueled by Shell V-Power and powered by Shell Advance motorcycle oils, Ride for Light will be led by Philippe Saubier, a Solar Energy Foundation board member and iron man motorcyclist, together with Ibba Rasul Bernardo, a video game BPO Consultant and Antonio ‘Toto’ Villanueva, a skilled mechanic. The Riders will conduct social and ecological missions in about 40 communities that represent different religious and ethnic backgrounds of the country. The mission will emphasize the value of the Indigenous people, many of whom live in protected areas.
During the kick-off event, the three Ride for light patriots and Solar Energy Foundation Philippines Chair Jim Ayala were joined by Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) Chairman and President Edgar Chua, who led the ceremonial filling up of Shell V-Power and Shell Advance at the Shell retail station located in United Nations Avenue, Manila. As official fuels and lubricants partner of the Ride for Light 2011, Shell will be providing Shell V-Power and Shell Advance motorcycle oils for the 19-day adventure ride, as well as roadside assistance in the route’s nearest stations. The riders kicked off at the kilometre-zero marker located in front of the Rizal monument on April 16 to embark on a 19-day trip across the Philippines, which will culminate at the La Mesa Ecopark on May 6, 2011.
“Shell is pleased to work with like minded groups such as the Solar Energy Foundation Network to actively find solutions to meet the world’s growing energy challenges in the most sustainable way and make energy available to far flung areas to uplift the lives of the disadvantaged,” Mr. Edgar Chua, PSPC Chairman and President said.
Through advanced technology, new ways of operating and partnerships, Shell manages its environmental impact as it contributes to meeting the world’s growing energy needs.
