I’m Janice, a Process Technologist in Singapore. During my undergraduate days, I aspired to join Shell after I heard about the huge emphasis Shell places on personal development. After attending Shell’s recruitment talk, I was enticed by the vast range of career & development opportunities and the open, forward-looking culture at Shell.

I have since been working with Shell Singapore for 5 fulfilling years at the manufacturing site. Indeed, the enriching personal development I received so far, is one of the key reasons why I feel motivated at work. Let me share more why I remain excited to be a part of this dynamic organisation.

Shell strongly believes in developing its employees to reach their fullest potential. Within a short span of 5 years, I have had multiple opportunities to travel to numerous countries for training, workshops and conferences. I had also the opportunities to visit other manufacturing sites and gain broader perspectives of how Shell operates across different countries and cultures.

Through these exchanges around the world, I picked up best practices and shared my learnings with my colleagues upon my return. Attending conferences and workshops also allowed me to expand my network and learn from like-minded colleagues. I am very thankful that Shell’s large, multi-national footprint has given me numerous, continued opportunities to broaden my horizons.

Not only am I given development opportunities and exposures at a global level, I am also constantly challenged to stretch my potential to the fullest at my workplace. In my various assignments, I am fortunate to have line managers who believe in me and constantly task me with new challenges and real responsibilities.

Despite my relative lack of experience, I was recently entrusted to lead a large project where I was given the space and freedom to organise work around the project. That said, my experienced colleagues were always there to provide guidance and support whenever I need it, and that is something I am deeply grateful for.

Besides the professional development, I have also developed true friendships with colleagues over the years. With a very tight-knit culture, this means the workplace is just like a second home to me. This the place where we celebrate happy moments together and provide support to each other through difficult times. We also spend substantial amount of time outside work together – be it for food, exercise or even overseas travel!

Shell provides a great balance to my career. As an employee, I believe that I am empowered to make a positive change to the company. I am given ample opportunities to develop globally across multiple challenging tasks. Being in Shell also means that I get to work, interact with, and learn from the best minds in the industry. The support and friendship that I receive from my colleagues makes Shell a great place to work. It has been a fulfilling 5 years so far and I can’t wait for many more years to come!
