Q. What is the Shell Young Leaders Program?
A. The Shell Young Leaders Program is an intensive 8-month programme for student organizations and their members. It aims to empower university students to develop their leadership skills and become strong student leaders, in order to run their organizations and execute their organization events to the best of their capability. Shell aims to help students build these capabilities by means of in-depth capability and upskilling sessions and mentoring programs. At the end of the 8-month programme, Shell will award the best-performing organizations.

Q. Who is qualified to join the Shell Young Leaders Program?
A. The Shell Young Leadership Programme is open to any Business or Engineering-based student organization that fulfills the following criteria:
- Any applying organization must be currently be an accredited organization, and must have been a duly accredited organization for at least 2 years (must be recognized by the relevant university office)
- Any applying organization must fall under one of the three categories:
o Professional – Groups with a unique focus, particularly in preparing students for their professional lives/careers
o Academic – Groups supportive of the mission of a particular academic department
o General leadership – Groups that govern a specific student body and develop leadership potential - To qualify, the applying organization must have at least thirty (30) members
- Finally, in order to participate, the approval/endorsement of the relevant university office/ personnel must be obtained by the applying organization

Q. How does my organization apply for the Shell Young Leaders Program?
A. Your organization must fill in the application form and submit it, along with additional documents specified in the form, in a zip folder to sylp@pbed.ph:
- Please click here for the application form.
- Submit a two-page outline of the organization’s plans and programs for AY 2019-2020, and a short paragraph describing the organization’s capacity to achieve these plans and programs
- A letter of endorsement from the college/university’s Office of Student Affairs

Q. When is the deadline for submission?
A. You may submit your organization’s application until October 7, 2019.

Q. What is the selection process for organizations who apply to the programme?
A. Upon the close of application, we will review your submissions against the following criteria:
- Organizational capacity (30%)
a) Robust organizational plan (15%) – how well the organizational plan aligns with the organization vision and proposition
b) Good financial standing (15%) – the organization’s health and potential to grow/achieve their year’s plans - Organizational impact (20%)
a) Relevance of organization’s plans to address wider issues to achieve the organization’s core purpose (i.e. how the organization’s mission-vision enable members to be workplace ready Filipinos) - Plans and programs for 2019 (50%)
a) Relevance (20%) – relevance of plans and programs in enhancing leadership and skills development and employability among its members
b) Creativity and innovation (15%) – use of creative and innovative solutions to implement plans and programs for 2019
c) Sustainability (15%) – how the organization maximizes resources and networks to complete its plans and programs successfully

Q. How many organizations will be chosen to participate in the Shell Young Leaders Program?
A. A total of up to twenty (20) organizations will be selected to participate in the Shell Young Leaders Program. The final list of selected organizations will be announced within the first two weeks of October 2019.

Q. Why is the Shell Young Leaders Program eight (8) months long?
A. The timeline for the Shell Young Leaders Programme is as follows:
- Application Period (August to September 2019)
- Selection and Announcement Period (October 2019)
- Capability Building and Upskilling Workshops + Mentorship Sessions (November 2019 to April 2020)
- Mid-year and Final Presentations (December 2019 and May 2020, respectively)
- Shell Young Leaders Programme Awards Night (June 2020)

Q. Is the Shell Young Leaders Program a competition? If yes, how do I win?
A. Shell Philippines will be awarding the Top 3 Student Organizations. During the Mid-year and Final Presentations, Shell’s panel of judges will determine how well the organization was able to apply the learnings from the capability building and upskilling sessions, and also examine how well the organization was able to execute their events and run their organization for the school year.

Q. Besides capacity building and upskilling sessions, what other benefits will my organization receive if we are selected to participate in the Program?
A. Shell Philippines will be awarding the Top 3 Student Organizations. The Most Outstanding Student Organization wins Php100,000; the first and second runners-up receive Php70,000 and Php50,000, respectively. This cash may be used to sponsor an organization event, or to buy equipment/other materials for the winning organizations.
