Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. Celebrates its 30th Year Anniversary
PSFI celebrated its 30 years of unwavering service to the Filipino nation last August 24, 2012 at the Grand Ballroom of Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Guests include PSFI institutional partners and benefactors, government officials and partners, officials and representatives of multi-lateral organizations, PSFI past and present staff, Shell Companies in the Philippines (SCiP) executives and partners in media, all who have helped PSFI touch the lives of more than six million Filipinos.
Highlighting the event were the key note speeches delivered by PSFI’s long-time partners and the presentation of Plaques of Appreciation to institutional partners for helping PSFI achieve an incomparable milestone. Guest speakers include TESDA Deputy Director General for Sectoral TVET Ms. Irene Isaac, President of Western Palawan University (WPU) Dr. Elsa Palau-Manarpaac, DOH Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa and Fund Portfolio Manager of Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) Ms. Qi Cui.
Taking the Next Step towards a Malaria-free Philippines
Espousing the theme “Recognizing the gains, facing the challenges towards elimination”, the Local Chief Executives’ Meeting took place last August 24, 2012 at the Quezon Ballroom of Makati Shangri-La Hotel. Discussed in the meeting were the current malaria status in the country and the next steps to be taken to achieve the goal of a malaria-free Philippines.
Present in the event were the governors of Apayao, Quirino, Romblon, Sarangani, Zamboanga Sibugay, Compostela Valley, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Palawan, Camarines Sur, and Quezon, DOH Assistant Secretary Dr. Enrique A. Tayag, DOH Undersecretary Teodoro Herbosa, National Center for Disease Prevention and Control Director Dr. Irma L. Asuncion, Global Fund (GF) Fund Portfolio Manager Ms. Qi Cui, WHO Medical Officer Dr. Lasse Westergaard, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) Chairman Cesar A. Movement Against Malaria e-News Vol. 8 Issue 4
Movement Against Malaria (MAM) joins in the commemoration of the World Malaria Day (WMD) as it continuously intensifies its efforts to eliminate malaria in the Philippines. Various activities were held in malaria endemic communities for the unified effort to ensure effective malaria control.
WMD 2013 in the country focused on promoting awareness, boosting partnerships with organizations and communities, and intensifying social mobilization.
En Route to Success: An Unlad sa Pasada Scholar Story
There are a million ways to achieve what you want, and Jovellmar Olivarez chose the path to enroll in the Unlad sa Pasada (USP) scholarship program. Jovellmar is the gold medallist of the first-ever batch of USP graduates. Being a jeepney driver enabled him to be a Pepeng Pasada Club member that gave him the chance to be a USP scholar.
PSFI Programs Expand to Kids and Indigenous People (IPs)
Following a successful partnership between Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) and Western Philippines University (WPU) in implementing Sanayan sa Kakayahang Agrikultura (SAKA) in Palawan, PSFI and WPU will embark on a new journey by helping indigenous people’s groups in Palawan by engaging them in an educational and livelihood training that aims to reinforce their skills and enable them not just to be good farmers but also to be entrepreneurs who are prepared to meet the challenges of the future.
In Pandacan, after five years of implementing the Specialized English Enhancement Course for High School and Elementary Teachers (SPEECH) program, Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) has expanded the said program to grade school students. After running the first batch of grade six students from October-November 2012, PSFI is set to run one batch of SPEECH-KIDS every year.
International Coastal Clean-up 2012
Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (PSPC) and Pilipinas Shell Foundation, Inc. (PSFI) celebrate annually the International Coastal Clean-up Day. As primary benefactors, Barangay Tabangao and Malitam in Batangas City never fail to contribute their unyielding support for one of the most significant days for Mother Earth.
SAKA and SPEECH Graduation in Palawan
On April 18, 2013, the last batch of SPEECH and SAKA scholars in Palawan graduated at WPU Training Center in Aborlan, Palawan. A total of 237 SPEECH graduates and 34 SAKA graduates received their Certificate of Completion and Certificate in Agricultural Entrepreneurship respectively.
Gracing the joint closing ceremonies were WPU President Dr. Elsa P. Manarpaac, WPU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Julie Hope P. Evina, WPU Dean of the College of Agriculture Dr. Eulena C. Pizana, OIC Schools Division Superintendent of City DepEd Domingo Padul, District Supervisor of Aborlan Efren Abejo, PSFI Executive Director Edgardo Veron Cruz, PSFI Program Managers Marvi Trudeau and Aquino Veran, SPEX Communications Manager Paolo Gavino, Shell Upstream Social Investment Advisor Sankie Simbulan and Shell Social Investments Manager Jackie Ampil.
