Shell National Students Art Competition Holds Art Interact Workshops to Empower Young Artists Across the Philippines
Manila, Philippines – As part of the 110th-anniversary celebration of Shell companies in the Philippines (SciP), the Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) held Art Interact, a series of workshops at the National Museums of Manila, Ilocos, and Zamboanga. These workshops provided budding artists to learn from and interact with some of the country’s most renowned artists to promote collaboration, creativity, and innovation in the country’s art scene.
“For 57 years, the Shell National Student Arts Competition (NSAC) has been a testament to our commitment to preserving and nurturing the Filipino passion for culture and the arts. Art is more than a form of expression; it's a vital part of our heritage and history, and it is essential to our collective spirit and identity. Through this workshop, which is only one of our many art-focused initiatives, we aim to broaden our reach and inspire more lives with the transformative power of art,” shared Karla Zarate, Corporate Brand Advisor of Shell Philippines.
The Shell NSAC Art Interact series of events aim to continue fostering young Filipino talent and supporting the country’s growing art community. By collaborating with master artists such as Toym Leon Imao, Ronald Ventura, and Aladin Antiqueno, Shell NSAC Art Interact empowers the next generation of Filipino creators.
Zamboanga: Art Installation Workshop with Master Artist Toym Leon Imao


On June 21, 2024, the Shell NSAC Art Interact event made its way to Zamboanga, participants gathered at the National Museum - Zamboanga for a workshop led by renowned artist Toym Leon Imao. With the theme, “Public Art and Alternative Imaging of Community and Personal Histories,” the workshop encouraged attendees to view art as a medium for storytelling and a tool for social change.
Through the lens of public art, Imao guided the participants in understanding how art can reflect personal and collective histories, emphasizing how this approach helps preserve and reimagine cultural identity. They were empowered to think critically about how their art could be used to influence and connect with their local communities.
Manila: Mixed Media Workshop with Master Artist Ronald Ventura


The Manila leg of the Shell NSAC Art Interact series took place on July 12, 2024 at the National Museum of Fine Arts. Participants gathered to engage in a mixed media workshop led by one of the Philippines' most celebrated contemporary artists, Ronald Ventura. Centered on “Diverse Dimensions and Layers of Expressions,” the workshop challenged participants to explore the many facets of artistic expression, from the interplay of mediums to the exploration of identity and narrative.
Ventura’s unique approach to mixed media challenged the participants to step out of their comfort zones and experiment with different materials, perspectives, and techniques. The workshop enriched their understanding of the creative process and inspired them to push the boundaries of their work.
Vigan: Oil Acrylic Painting Workshop with Master Artist Aladin Antiqueno


The latest Shell NSAC Art Interact event took place in Vigan on October 4, 2024 at the National Museum of the Philippines - Ilocos, attendees gathered to participate in an oil acrylic painting workshop led by Master Artist Aladin Antiqueno. Entitled “Filipino Progress: Painting the Power of Positive Impact,” the workshop inspired attendees to visualize and capture the essence of progress through art, exploring how creativity can be a tool for reflecting social change and positive impact.
Antiqueno’s expertise in oil painting helped participants understand the importance of blending technique with the power of storytelling through their art, with many attendees reflecting on how the experience deepened their connection to the theme of positive change.
Shell NSAC: More than Just a Competition
Through Art Interact, Shell NSAC goes beyond competition by highlighting education, collaboration, and creative exchange. This series of workshops aims to help the next generation of artists refine their skills and make a lasting impact on their communities.
