Shell offers discounts to transport sector

In response to the call of the Department of Energy to help out the transport sector in cushioning the impact of rising oil prices, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation (Shell) will expand its Pepeng Pasada Loyalty Rewards Programme, to offer a P0.50 per litre discount on diesel fuel for jeeps and buses beginning January 1, 2011. The discount will be made available to members of Shell’s Pepeng Pasada Loyalty Rewards Programme for public utility vehicle drivers and may be availed through Pepeng Pasada lanes initially in 15 retail sites across Metro Manila.

“The Pepeng Pasada discount comes at a time when international oil prices are rising. We hope that through this discount, we are able to help cushion the impact on the transport sector,” Roberto Kanapi, Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation Vice President for Communications, said.

The discount is among the various benefits of the expanded Pepeng Pasada Loyalty Rewards Programme, which include rewards like free accident insurance and home appliances, among others, in exchange for points.

In 2009, Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc (PSFI) partnered with the Public Transport Workers Foundation to provide scholarship and training programmes for dependents of public utility vehicle drivers, operators and workers, under the programme Gas Mo Bukas Ko II (GMBK II). Since then, over 100 scholars have graduated under GMBK II.

“For many years, Shell has been implementing various programmes for the transport sector through lasting and sustainable means. The discount will be another way of providing support for the transport sector,” Kanapi added.
