SNYACC – Batangas Leg Winners

Far Eastern University’s – FERN Paul Robert Evangelista and San Sebastian College – Recoletos’ Kristian Paulo Cristobal emerge as leg champions in the Kiddies and Juniors division respectively in the recent 18th Shell National Youth Active Chess Championship Southern Luzon Leg at SM City Naga Event Center.
Batangas Leg Winners

Evangelista (4th from right) finished strong with a score of 8.5 points and 54.5 Bucholz in the Kiddies division. Felipe Magdalaga (2nd from left) of Maximo Gatlabayan Memorial National High School won 1st runner- up with 8 points and 56 Bucholz, while Christian Nañola (2nd from right) of Laguna College of Business and Arts settled for 2nd runner- up with 8 points and 51.5 Bucholz.


Cristobal (4th from left) toppled other players in the Juniors division with a score of 7.5 pts and 41 Bucholz. Also from San Sebastian College – Recoletos is runner up Jayson Mercado (3rd from right) with 7 points and 46 Bucholz, followed by Alfred Rapanot (3rd from left) of Far Eastern University with 7 points and 45.5 Bucholz. All three earned seats to compete in the grand finals.


Each winner from the respective divisions received a cash prize, while the six finalists, also took home trophies aside from cash prizes which were handed over by Shell Tabangao Refinery Human Resources Manager Alex Merano (far right) and Batangas Province Sports Development Officer Lito Castro (far left).


Shell Active Chess is an annual programme of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation which supports the empowerment of the Filipino youth, in line with the company’s commitment to sustainable development. It is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, and supported by Shell V-Power, Shellane, Shell Helix, and McDonald's, in partnership with SM Supermalls, Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao, Central Philippine University Iloilo, University of San Carlos Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro City Tourism.
