Shell Active Chess Opens With NCR Leg

In his welcome message, Kanapi encouraged the tournament participants to continue honing their chess skills because it helps in developing mental faculties as well as values. GM Gonzales, on the other hand, inspired the participants to continue participating in chess competitions and praised Shell for its commitment to help the Filipino youth in developing their potentials.

Out of 500 registered participants from different schools in Metro Manila and neighbouring cities and provinces, De La Salle University's Mari Joseph Turqueza emerged as the leg champion as he toppled other players in the Juniors division with a score of 7 and 43.5 Bucholz, while Jerad Docena from Far Eastern University- FERN Diliman finished strong in the Kiddies division with a perfect score of 8 points and 56 Bucholz.

Shell Active Chess is a programme of Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corporation which supports the empowerment of the Filipino youth , in line with the company’s commitment to sustainable development. It is sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, and supported by Shell V-Power, Shellane, Shell Helix, and McDonald's, in partnership with SM Megamall, SM Supermalls, Cagayan Colleges Tuguegarao, Central Philippine University Iloilo, University of San Carlos Cebu, and Cagayan de Oro City Tourism.
