Royal Dutch Shell plc (the “Shell Group”) announced today that it is donating US$2.5 million, in response to the catastrophic typhoon Haiyan that struck the Philippines. Typhoon Haiyan has caused massive destruction in the central Philippines.

Subic town is the site where Malampaya Phase 3 (MP3) Project’s Depletion Compression Platform is being fabricated. The MP3 Project, through the Malampaya Foundation, Inc. (MFI) launched a social performance program to promote road safety in Subic town called Project KALSADA or ‘Kaligtasan sa Daan’ (Safety on the Road) to help address the problem of rampant road accidents which is the fourth leading cause of death in the Philippines according to the Philippine Department of Health. Particularly in Subic, there were over a hundred road accidents recorded in the area that involved the tricycle.

Gas technology leader and sustainable mobility proponent Shell is among seven companies in the Philippines that received highest ratings in ethical business practices. The recognition was given by the Makati Business Club (MBC) in cooperation with the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), which established the Integrity Initiative—a private sector-led campaign that aims to strengthen ethical standards in society. It aspires for a level playing field for business, where ethical companies enjoy competitive advantage in both government and private sector transactions.

The facility offers world-class trainings on Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) to equip local workers with competencies necessary to execute fabrication yard and offshore work for Malampaya Phase 3 (MP3) efficiently and with no harm to people and the environment.

While Phase 2 and 3 of the Malampaya Deep Water Gas-to-Power Project is still being completed, Shell is already looking into building a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) import terminal near its refinery in Tabangao, Batangas and is currently conducting a technical feasibility study that will look into its viability.

These efforts reflect the diverse and dynamic nature of art and artists, and the changing times. Shell in the Philippines continues to provide energy access to far-flung areas in Palawan, Philippines with its recent donation of solar lamps to IP (indigenous people) communities. The solar lamps were earned by Shell staff volunteers as the biggest contingent in the 2012 Run for Light Marathon. This initiative will enable health volunteers and para-teachers to enhance tribal education, livelihood programme, and delivery of healthcare services such as early malaria diagnosis.

The Hague, Feb. 28, 2013 – Shell today released new scenarios that explore two possible ways the 21st century could unfold, with dramatically different implications for society and the world’s energy system. One scenario sees cleaner-burning natural gas becoming the most important energy source globally by the 2030s and early action to limit carbon dioxide emissions. The other sees solar becoming the top source by about 2070, but with slower action to address the threat of climate change.
